PTS – Institut für Fasern & Papier gGmbH (formerly Papiertechnische Stiftung) is the leading research and service company for the German paper industry. We support research institutions and companies from all sectors in the development and application of modern fiber-based solutions. Our accredited laboratories also offer a wide range of measurement and testing services.

Our main competencies are:

• Fibers & Composites: Fiber analysis and raw material selection, development of high-performance materials produced using paper technology, semi-finished products and bio-composites; development of new markets.
• Functional surfaces: Development, optimization and application of functional coatings, functional use of bio-based materials, surface analytics.
• Smart & Circular Solutions: Optimization of the recyclability of fiber-based products, development of sensor and measurement technology solutions for waste paper management, quality management of fiber stock and end product; recyclability and environmental compatibility of fiber-based products; optimization of stock preparation processes.
• Material Testing & Analytics: Physical and chemical properties of paper, cardboard and paperboard, surface analysis and optics, printing and processing, food law, microbiology, authenticity testing.

Our in-house pilot plants, which enable the practical development of products and processes, round off the PTS service portfolio. Not only can traditional paper products be optimized here, but new types of fibre composites for lightweight construction applications can also be developed on the pilot paper machine. Examples of this include the use of synthetic fibers such as carbon, glass and basalt fibers, the combination of different structural fibers and the testing of fabrics, fiber fabrics and fiber mats for semi-finished products.

PTS Academy

Our institute also offers specialist training opportunities and intensive networking at topic-related seminars, workshops, specialist conferences and symposia as part of the PTS Academy. Furthermore, we organize customized in-house training courses on the topics of paper production, recyclability and material development.

Education

In order to efficiently develop innovative solutions to complex challenges, we cooperate with universities, colleges, non-university research institutions, associations and companies. As an affiliated institute of Dresden University of Technology, we also offer many opportunities for students to complete their degree, bachelor's and master's theses or doctorates at PTS.
